A drunk man in south central China’s Guangxi Province has been arrested after physically attacking a doctor because he became impatient at hospital protocol and wanted medics to immediately treat his injured sister. The drunk man, Wang Feng, had brought his sister Yuan to the hospital in provincial capital Nanning City with a broken arm vcaused by a bad fall. The doctor in the caualty department, Xiu Tsou, had asked Wang and his sister to patiently follow hospital protocol that meant she needed to get an X-ray before getting treatment. But the impatient Wang claimed to be a government official and demanded immediate treatment for his sister. When his request was rejected by Doctor Xiu, who said he did not care who the man was, the angry Wang waded in with fists flying. Wang was captured on surveillance cameras physically attacking Doctor Xiu, punching and kicking him in the face while he told other hospital staff that he was an official, and would have them fired if they intervened. The violence continued for several minutes, with Wang smashing up hospital equipment at the front desk, until police arrived to subdue Wang. Police said that Wang had lied about his being a government official, and that he was in fact a migrant worker in Guangxi Province. After Wang’s arrest he was given time to sober up, and later expressed regret at his "stupid" actions, which were the result of a night of drinking with friends and family. Wang said: "It was very stupid, what I did. After I became sober I immediately went to the hospital to apologise." But he still faces assault charges once the investigation is complete. (ends)
