Unfortunately, office bearers of AMUTA filed an appeal before the Hon’ble Supreme Court to stymie these efforts. They did not succeed and were severely criticized for their retrograde step at the General Body Meeting of AMUTA held on 19 May 2016.
In the same vein of opposing any progressive measure, AMUTA held a press conference on 27 May 2016 opposing the establishment of secular schools affiliated with AMU Centre for Promotion of Education and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India. They accused the Vice-Chancellor of intending to live off brand AMU through an illegal trust. The Vice-Chancellor has no such intentions and has to hand over the Presidentship of Sir Syed Education Foundation when he demits office on 16 May 2017.
The Executive Council meeting of 28 May 2016 resolved that there was a need to establish schools, under a Trust, which would not violate the AMU Act. Executive Council would exercise control over the Trust through CPECAMI, made responsible under Section 5(2)(c) of AMU Amendment Act 1981 for the “Education and Cultural Advancement of Muslims of India”. The Executive Council has constituted a committee to draft the Trust Deed, Charter and Objectives.
The Committee, chaired by Professor Habibur Rahman, Honorary Treasure of the University, will also include Mr. Khalid Masood, Prof. Hafiz Mohd Ilyas, Mr Naseem Ahmad, Prof. Tariq Mansoor and Prof. NAK Durrani as members.
It is clarified that AMU land, property and funds are sacred and will not be utilized. Only funds donated by students have been used for construction of the School at Jaula (Muzaffarnagar). It is unfortunate that AMUTA, which had agreed to contribute towards the school, subsequently withdrew their commitment.
The Executive Council has also instituted a Committee to examine the changes to Statutes and Ordinances necessary to implement UGC Regulations 2010, except Section 7.0.0 and 7.3.0 which are subjudice.
